Welcome to Yolo County Discover It Yourself History
Yolo County has been around since the year 1850, when California became part of the United States. Yolo County covers approximately 1,024 square miles of Northern California. It is largely agriculture based and has many rivers and creeks flowing through the area.
Here at the Yolo County Archives we take pride in the work we do to help preserve the documents from our county that date back all the way to 1850! We have many different machines that are used to scan and preserve the documents for generations to come.
In our Work Room is where most of our scanners and other machines are located. We have five different scanners to choose from to best fit and accomplish the preservation work we do with different sized documents. We also have two large tables to work on in order to fit all sizes of documents and maps.
In our Reading Room is where patrons will come to do research and look at specific documents that have been pulled out of our archives to further explore. It is also the home to many different research help books and our Obituary Collection.
For you to enjoy when coming in or leaving the Yolo County Archives are fliers and pamphlets on new, upcoming events and projects the archives are working on. A display case near the entrance of the Archives shows some of Yolo County's photographs and artifacts from around the area.
The overall goal of the Discover It Yourself Project is to have people be able to not only access documents and photographs from their own home but also be able to find the information they need online. We also have a goal to increase community interest and involvement with Yolo County History by helping to transcribe new items that are put on the website.
New items and updates are being uploaded to the website on a weekly basis. Everything that is up on the website is a digital copy of a physical document stored here at the archives.
If you are interested in coming in to look at something in person from one of our collections please call the Archives at (530)-666-8010 to set up an appointment.
